Interchange Planning, Operational Analyses and Geometric Design Course with Joel P. Leisch was a Great Success

Transoft Solutions was pleased to sponsor the 3-day professional development course, which was held on January 10-12. The training was designed for for transportation planners, traffic engineers and highway designers, and instructed by Joel P. Leisch, an internationally recognized expert.

The course was held at Transoft Solutions corporate headquarters with attendees from across Canada. Being instructed by Mr. Leisch was a big draw for attendees because of his extensive knowledge and expertise. He has had more than 40 years of experience as a consultant to 26 Departments of Transportation in the U.S., the USDOT, and transportation agencies in Israel, Japan, Canada, Greece and New Zealand. Mr. Leisch is also the author of the ITE, Freeway and Interchange Geometric Design Handbook.

The year 2011 is Transoft Solutions’ 20th Anniversary! That is truly hard for us to imagine that the launch of AutoTURN, our flagship software now used by thousands of users in over 120 countries worldwide, occurred back in 1991! Twenty years later, we are a nine product company, all of them developed in keeping with our corporate slogan – Driving Productivity through Innovation. The folk at Transoft are all very, very excited at reaching this milestone and we look forward to all of you joining us in our celebrations. Green Ideas and Designs: Turbine Lighting

The Transoft Solutions team appreciates great ideas, innovative gadgets, interesting redesigns, and environmental sensitivity. TAK Studio has submitted a cool green idea with the Turbine Light for road way light standards as their entry into the Greener Gadgets competition, going on in New York on February 25, 2010. Although the idea of turbine lighting isn't really new, TAK Studio has come up with a great looking design that just may free up extra power on the grid by using the air turbulence of passing vehicles.

When you consider that the number of motorist is growing as is the demand for safer road ways, it almost makes sense, doesn't it? Is this a viable option for our roads, we think it could be, but as always we are interested in what you think of this idea. Leave a comment below with your thoughts on the Turbine Light.

 

Call for Comments: What are the Top Transportation Engineering Trends for 2010?

A new year and a new decade. As 2010 unfurls, the traffic engineering industry and the technology that surrounds it is inevitably going to see some changes. Although the economy was the most discussed, and inescapable, topic in 2009, it was a year in which there were many interesting trends. Susan Smith at AECcafe noted some of the top trends were BIM, cloud computing, social media, 3D modeling and visualization, in addition to multi-core workstations just to name a few. But, what about this year? Will it be a continuation of the a fore mentioned trends? Is it be the beginning of the age of roundabouts and diverging diamond interchanges? Is there going to be migration towards mobile workstations?
