December’s Featured Designer is TORUS user Jim Poorbaugh, P.E. M.S.C.E., Project Manager for Bohannan Huston in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Although now a project manager, Poorbaugh’s passion is still for design - something that has been with him since his college days when he was drafting - by hand! We are excited to shine a spotlight on someone with a true enthusiasm for what he does.
At Transoft Solutions, we’re very interested in the people
who use our software and the projects they work on. We have been fortunate to
work with some really great designers over the years. Top designers and
scholars have written (and continue to write) some fantastic case studies and
white papers focusing on design obstacles that come with challenging projects and
the power of our software. However, we wanted to take a closer look at the people
who develop the ideas and designs and shine a spotlight on them in a new regular
feature aptly named, Featured Designer.
For the first edition of Featured Designer, we are honored to shine a spotlight on Todd Lanphear, CADD Manager for Traffic Planning and Design Inc. (TPD) in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. TPD was recently chosen by CE News magazine as the number 1 Civil Engineering Firm to work for in the US in 2009. We chatted with Todd to get to know him a little better.
Robert Green over at cadalyst asks the question, is a laptop a suitable CAD workstation? Laptops have come a long way since Compaq and Apple's first offerings in the late 1980's, now many of them offer an impressive list of hardware that makes them a truly viable option as a workstation. Documenting matters! However, it can be a tedious and often laborious process. Over at RobiNZ CAD blog, you can see how using MindManager can speed up the documentation process.
Creating map parts for these means adding topics just takes a click and also allowed me to build in some "MindManager smarts" to cope with a documentation challenge. Due to some of our projects being done with Revit toolbar based 2009 and ribboned 2010 (different consultants) I wanted to show both common & version specific task details for process.
The Text Map Markers in MindManager can be used to filter topics for viewing allowing one map to store & display multiple version documentation. My map parts have the correct markers applied where an element only occurs in one application version.
